The people of Nagazi community in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State have called on the federal government to reconstruct the bad portion on Okene- Lokoja road without delay as it poses danger to travellers along the road.
While speaking at a stakeholders meeting of the community in Nagazi recently, the secretary of the community association, Mallam Anatu Umoru said that the portion which passes through Nagazi through the Federal College of Education, Okene has become so bad that motorists spend several hours there.
Mallam Umoru said that the problem is compounded by several heavy duty vehicles from the south to the north that always get stuck there.
Also speaking at the meeting, another stakeholder, Zainab Usman said that the road is a federal road which needed to be attended to immediately to alleviate the suffering of motorists and travellers particularly now that Christmas is around the corner.
She noted that if the contract is awarded to a competent contractor a job that would last for a long time, stressing that why most Nigerian roads do not last is because they are not given to contractors that have the equipment.
A truck driver, Tanko Jibril who spoke with The Graphic at the bad portion of the road said that he had stayed in a particular place for more than three hours without moving an inch, said it was a terrible experience, adding that it happens on daily basis.
Another driver, Seidu Musa who spoke with our reporter said he had spent over six hours in a particular place regretted that the good he was carrying to Lagos is tomato which is a perishable which could spoil if he delayed further.
He therefore called on the federal government to ensure that the road is rehabilitated immediately because of its importance to the economy of the country.
