Last week, FACE Africa hosted its 6thAnnual WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Gala in New York City at The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers on Saturday 21 March, 2015 and it was quite the event as a lot of people stepped out to help commemorate UN World Water Day.
320 young professional Africans and Friends of Africa came together in style to raise awareness and funds for an issue that affects 350 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa — the lack of access to safe drinking water.
This year’s WASH Gala theme “Building Resilient Communities” underscored the need for continued investments in basic infrastructure and essential services like WASH which played a critical role in not only containing, but also preventing the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in the communities where FACE Africa operates in Liberia.
Speaking on the event, Saran Kaba Jones, FACE Africa’s Founder and Executive Director says “We were excited to come together once again to raise awareness and funds for such an important issue that affects our continent and to see so many young Africans come out in support of our mission was truly inspiring. The tide is clearly turning and Africans are standing up and taking charge of their own challenges. This year’s WASH Gala was a clear demonstration of “Africans for Africa” and we hope the trend continues.”
Hosted by Helene Faussart of Grammy-nominated group Les Nubians, and the Gala raised $150,000, all of which will go towards FACE Africa’s clean water programs in rural Liberia.
The evening featured a cocktail reception, premium open bar and live entertainment.
