According to The News Nigeria,the blasts occurred at the Kasuwar Jagwal market within seconds of each other at about 3:10 pm today when business was at its peak but there are no certain mubers of casualties yet.
“The first explosion happened inside the market and the second went off just outside the entrance as people rushed out to flee,” said witness Ibrahim Dambam.
According to Sahara Reporters, the blasts were so powerful that several buildings in the vicinity collapsed
Witnesses said that two female suicide bombers on tricycle came to the market. As one alighted and went inside the market, the other was left in the tricycle as the two explosive devices went off simultaneously.
An eye witness told Channels Television, “I can confirm to you that the situation at the moment is tense up after the twin blast went off around 3:15 this afternoon and rescue operation is still going on and no one can tell you the casualty figure now.
“It’s so sad that we keep hearing this on daily basis.”
Authorities are yet to confirm the blast but hospital sources said that some bodies have been brought to the hospital mortuary as rescue is still going on.
Sundays are usually market days at Potiskum and attracts traders and shoppers from all over Yobe State and beyond.
Another witness, Badaru Isa, said security operatives had taken over the site, which had been deserted.
“No-one can say how many people were affected by the blasts because everybody fled the area following the explosions,” he added.
Panicked shoppers fled and traders abandoned their stalls at both the mobile phone market and the city’s main market, which is just next door.
The Potiskum GSM market is located close to Brema Primary School along the Mohammed Idrissa Way.
