The world without relation to the world within - Part One of
Three

With the weight of the world on the shoulders of a young man
at 23; his slow unsteady pace is apparent of his unknown future.

His gloom carries a dark cloud above him; making his world even
darker.

One day a man his senior approaches this young man “Why
would such a young fellow as yourself seem to be hast of the future” the
gentleman asks.

“What future?” the young man answered.

“Why your future of course you have the world ahead of you”
Replied the gentleman.

“Please call me Al” Says the gentleman as he extends his
hand out to shake the young man’s hand.

Slowly the young man grabs Al’s hand and says “I am Paul”

Al looks within Paul’s eyes and sees no hope, no life and
certainly no happiness.

“Paul (a slight pause) it seems something is troubling you;
what could it be that brings your world to a halt?” Al asks softly.

What seems like hours Paul slowly answers Al, “I find myself
unemployed, my parents died suddenly, my girl friend broke up with me; I have
no future”.

Al shuffles around, “Paul he says, would you mind coming
with me; I want to show you something”.

Paul is unsure if he should go with this stranger, he looks
into the man’s eyes and can see this gentle soul is no threat to him, so Paul
shakes his head yes.

The two men turn and walk ever so slowly, for Al walks with
a cane, his pace not so speedy, a limp is apparent as the two walk.

Paul and Al talk as they walk; this chat is of small talk.

“Here we are” Al speaks out.

“Wow” is the only words Paul could speak.

You see Al took him to his home under a trestle; Al was a
homeless man.

Paul had no idea for the man was clean, and well dressed.

Paul also realized the man was blind.

Paul thought to himself; how could he see me when he’s
blind, he seem to look right at me; straight into my eyes.

Al spoke softly to Paul how he found himself here ten years ago.

“I too found myself as you unemployed, no family, no future,
I had a choice to make” Al said

“Rather I found myself with two choices, do you have any
idea what those choices were Paul” Al asked

Paul answered, “Not really”

“Well Paul, I could take a road unpleasant, wallow in self
pity, or I could see that my future for the better” “What do you see before you
Paul” asks Al.

Paul looks around; sees a huge box covered with plastic,
bucket of water, clothesline with several pieces of clean clothing on it, an
ice box, and fire pit… he answers “I see the comforts of home”.

“What else do you see Paul” Al says.

Paul turns and looks but doesn't see anything else, “That is
all I see” he says in a puzzled voice.

Al walks around Paul and enters the box.

Paul stands in silence, waiting patiently for Al to emerge
from the box.
